Locks are fascinating mechanical devices, evolved over hundreds of years to meet different requirements for cost, durability, and security. Thousands of different designs exist, and inventors are constantly producing new ways of keeping the adversary out. On the other side of the fence, researchers and designers tirelessly work to find flaws in existing designs -- either so that these flaws can be fixed before burglars exploit them, or so that locksmiths and government entry teams can better do their jobs. This gallery of still-life product style lock photographs is by no means a complete or definitive source. For that, I would recommend Marc Weber Tobias' "Locks, Safes, and Security" (www.security.org) or Graham Pulford's "High Security Mechanical Locks." On the other hand, you're almost certain to find a few exotic design and devices here that you've never seen before.
