Guy Fawkes' Day / V for Vendetta / UA Senate Invasion

November 5th is Guy Fawkes Night in the UK, in celebration of the foiling of the November 5, 1605 Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Palace of Westminster. It featured prominently in the graphic novel and film V for Vendetta. On the morning of November 5th at MIT, all over campus there appeared V masks covering faces on posters, statues, and murals. (The masks were attached without causing damage to the underlying surface, in keeping with hacking ethics.)

Scroll down for a description and photographs of the UA senate invasion performance hack on the evening of November 5th.

                • "B for Vendetta" -- Hackers put 'V' masks on the bees decorating a poster on the 1st floor hallway of the Main Group
                          • The thought bubble (which was present before the V masks were placed) reads "I'm glad I'm not in that photo... nerds..."
                                • The 6' long MIT Technique photo-poster (of which I am the photographer) wasn't spared either. The thought bubbles predate the V masks.
                                          • The bust of George Eastman in MIT's Building 6 recieved a mask, wig, and hat.
                                              • On the "CAUTION: Eye Protection Required In This Area" sign, the V mask had 'eye protection' added to it.
                                                                • MIT hackers put a 'V for Vendetta' mask, hat, and cape on the Hilltop Steakhouse Cow Hack display in the Stata Center's Student Street early November 5th. November 5th was a pivotal date in Vendetta; the V mask is a reference to the lead character in the film. Hackers also put V masks on posters and displays in the Infinite Corridor.

After a brief musical introduction from the 1812, their apparent leader gave a short speech.

"Remember, remember the fifth of november / the day that the wanking was caught / Under no condition / Should the laptop prohibition ever be forgot.

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

With this, the hackers fired party poppers into the air and exited the senate chamber.
